Our story & important milestones

Itineris was founded in 2003 by Edgard Vermeersch.

After studying economics, Edgard started working for a Consultancy firm, where he got to know several large enterprise software solutions.
He quickly realized that for certain types of companies these systems were not the ideal fit: too cumbersome, too complex, and above all, too expensive. That’s when he decided to start Itineris, with a focus on building software solutions for Utilities, developed on the Microsoft platform.

UMAX was born: a modern software solution that meets the specific needs of Utility businesses: lean, mean, flexible, affordable, but also developed specifically for their industry.

Today, Itineris continues to grow with employees located in the US, Belgium, and UK.

Foundation Itineris

In 2003, Itineris enters the European Utility market to deliver ERP/CIS solutions for Water Utilities and Energy suppliers.

When the European energy market gets liberalized, new players enter the market, which further accelerates the growth of the company.

2010 – now

Microsoft partnership

Since 2010, Itineris is a Microsoft Gold Partner, and in 2016 the company also became Microsoft Independent Software Vendor (ISV). Moreover, Itineris was awarded the prestigious Microsoft Inner Circle award for Business Applications in 2020, ranking the company in the top 1% of Microsoft’s global network of Business Applications partners.

2011 – now

Strong Investor base

In 2011, Venture capital firm PMV and Edgard Vermeersch participate in a funding round of €4,500,000. In 2013, Gimv joins PMV as a financial investor to accelerate the growth of the company and in 2018, SmartFin enters Itineris’ investor base, followed by FPIM in 2020. Itineris keeps investing heavily in its software solution to further improve its offering, and extend the reach with new customers.

2012 – now

Growing fast in the US

In 2012, Itineris acquires Crimson Oak, a US consulting firm providing services to North American Utilities. The company grows fast in the US, adding several North American Utilities to its client base, including Boston Water & Sewer Commission, Georgetown Utilities Systems, the City of Tallahassee, New York Department of Environmental Protection – one of the largest water Utilities in North America – and many more.

2016 – now

Successfully entering the UK market

In 2016, Itineris enters the UK Market. Meanwhile the company has added several UK Utilities to its client base, among which Gazprom, the second-largest business gas supplier in the UK, SSE, the UK’s largest B2B energy company, and Guernsey Electricity, the sole commercial electricity supplier on the island of Guernsey.

Itineris acquires Opinum

In November 2021, Itineris acquires Opinum SA, a data hub software company based in Mont-Saint-Guibert, Belgium. Opinum provides Utilities and Energy Service companies with better insights to manage consumption and optimize production. This fits in with Itineris’ drive to improve the overall efficiency, customer experience, and environmental goals of Utilities. With this acquisition, the company further strengthens its position as a tech innovator in the Utilities market.
