ATLANTA, July 19, 2016 – Georgetown Utility Systems—a regulated, municipal utility providing water, sewer and electricity to 45,000 residential and commercial customers in and around Georgetown, TX—has selected UMAX® from Itineris to replace the City’s legacy customer information system (CIS).

Itineris will implement its UMAX CIS solution for multi-service utilities, including Front Office for customer service representatives, Customer Self Service and Cashiering.

Focused on the Future

Central to Texas’ four major metro areas, Georgetown is a city focused on its future.

The US Census Bureau recently named Georgetown the fastest growing City in the U.S. with a population over 63,000. The City is projecting growth from its current 63,000 residents to 133,000 in the next ten years.

In addition, the City is set to become one of the largest municipally-owned utilities in the country powered 100 percent by wind and solar energy in 2017, and already has a comprehensive AMR/AMI “smart grid” in place.

The utility has also earned an RP3 (Reliable Public Power Provider) designation by the American Public Power Association for “utilities that demonstrate high proficiency in reliability, safety, work force development and system improvement.”

With these factors and other operational goals in focus, it’s not surprising that the City was seeking a solution that could provide enhancements such as:

  • Scalability for future growth
  • Flexibility for point of sale systems
  • Campaign management functionality for promoting conservation programs
  • Operational efficiencies through integration with existing systems
  • Improved and expedited access to customer data (i.e. faster call resolution)
  • Billing flexibility (e.g. time-of-use rates)
  • “Opt-in” readiness for possible future deregulation

“As a municipal utility, Georgetown Utility Systems is focused on making our city a better place to live for current and future residents,” said Deputy General Manager Mike Babin. “We are excited about the improvements to operations, customer service and efficiencies this project and our new UMAX solution will bring.”

A Modern, Microsoft Technology Platform

The move to UMAX®—built on Microsoft’s cutting-edge ERP platform Dynamics AX—will support Georgetown’s customer service and operational goals while better leveraging other Microsoft technology investments the City already has in place, such as Windows, SQL databases, Active Directory security management and BizTalk application integration.

As a native-running Microsoft based solution, UMAX will simplify and strengthen integrations with other mission-critical systems, providing faster, more reliable data movement throughout utility departments, greater flexibility in adapting processes to future business and customer care needs, new reporting and business intelligence capabilities such as Microsoft PowerBI, and an enhanced user experience for Georgetown Utility Systems employees.

“Like the City of Georgetown, our industry is facing major changes in the coming years. We are excited to be part of both the City’s future and that of the North American utility industry,” noted Itineris President, North America, John Beddingfield. “We appreciate our anchor clients in North America, such as Georgetown, for their vision and trust in us.
