Learn why Caroline made the switch.

Caroline started her journey at Itineris two years ago. Before that, she had worked in the utility industry (at npower – now part of the E.ON Group) for about 15 years. We sat down with her to explore her journey, motivations, and insights as she made the switch from a utility business to an IT company.

Hello Caroline. Can you share how you first learned about Itineris?

I was introduced to Itineris by a former colleague and close friend, Laura, who is working as a Solution Architect within the company. She knew that I was looking for a new challenge, and shared exciting details about her experiences at Itineris. Intrigued by her story, I did some additional research and decided to take the leap. And I am still here, so that’s a good sign! 😉

“What attracted me to Itineris was the opportunity to use my utility background to actively contribute to product enhancement. Additionally, Itineris is a very agile and flexible company, where changes are swiftly implemented. That ‘doing instead of talking’ mentality is something I really like.”

What were the main drivers for you to make the switch from a utility business to an IT company?

When I worked in the utility industry, I was mainly active in operational roles, overseeing teams responsible for processes and system enhancements. We often struggled to introduce new ideas because of the limitations of the existing products.

What attracted me to Itineris was the opportunity to use my utility background to actively contribute to product enhancement. I thrive on being part of something from the beginning, because that enables you to make a meaningful impact on the final outcome. Additionally, Itineris is a very agile and flexible company. Changes are swiftly implemented, and there’s not a lot of red tape here. That ‘doing instead of talking’ mentality is something I really like.

In what ways can you use your background in the utilities sector at Itineris?

Right now, I am supporting a large UK B2B Energy Supplier, where we are implementing our software.

With my understanding of the UK utility market, I can better interpret change requests, which helps identify potential gaps. Rather than rushing into implementation, this enables us to take a thoughtful approach, avoiding hasty decisions that might require adjustments later. I can also draw from my previous experience with systems and the challenges we encountered, to help enhance our solutions.

“The dynamic and supportive environment at Itineris, where professional growth and well-being go hand in hand, makes me feel very happy at the company.”

Reflecting on your journey, what differentiates your current experience from your previous roles?

First of all, the opportunity to actively shape the product roadmap is something that energizes me most. Itineris also fosters a culture of continuous learning and development. Although I don’t have a background in IT, I value the opportunity to learn the details behind our solutions.

Moreover, I appreciate the flexibility that is offered here. Even when working remotely, I never feel isolated. Daily standups, regular checkpoints, and team announcements keep me connected.

That interpersonal aspect is something that sets Itineris apart. Last year, during a challenging period, my People Leader regularly reached out to me, showing sincere concern for my well-being. That made a significant difference for me, creating a sense of value and respect.

The dynamic and supportive environment at Itineris, where professional growth and well-being go hand in hand, makes me feel very happy at the company.

Very inspiring to learn about your journey, Caroline. Thanks for sharing your insights!
